Genki Sushi at Sunway Pyramid

Words can’t describe how hype I was when I was told Genki Sushi is back in Malaysia! Welcome back and I’ve missed you, Genki Sushi!😚

In celebration of its first outlet opening in Malaysia, Genki Sushi will be launching its menu consisting of 122 core food items that will definitely satiate your appetite along with the selections on the Dai Man Zoku and Genki Premium Selection menu.

Fun Fact: Did you know Genki Sushi’s ‘angry face’ logo is to visualize a serious, professional and confident face of a Japanese sushi expert chef?😡

This time they’ve stepped up their A-game and will definitely make their diners thrilled with the debut of its ‘Kousoku Express’ sushi delivery system and signature Dai Man Zoku selections here at Sunway Pyramid.

What’s Kousoku Express if you’re wondering? Instead of using the regular conveyor belt with plates of sushi making rounds after rounds, it delivers food items directly from the kitchen to the table as they want to ensure what they serve has to be fresh which also provide diners a different level of dining experience.

True to its innovation legacy since historic times in Japan, Genki Sushi continously incorporates technology into their preparation processes, capturing Japanese efficiency and speed at its best all whilst preserving quality simultaneously.

After the opening ceremony and sake breaking, we had an opportunity to make our very own Temaki. Not going to lie but it was pretty fun getting to test our skills. Guess who won 2nd prize and won RM30 dining vouchers?😂

Here’s how we’ll be ordering our food! A QR code will be provided upon seated and you may start ordering straight off from your phone. There’s no need to fuss on waiting for your turn to use the tab to order what you want.😬

I love how they provide Green Tea Powder instead of sachets. It has this really nice hints of vegetal and oceanic flavors to it.

Here’s a peek on what we had for those who crave nostalgia or ones who are curious what makes Genki Sushi different:

Scallop (RM 6.80)

We ordered some sushi from their ‘Premium Collection’. It was simply tender, sweet carefully butterfly-cut scallop. Simple yet pleasantly delicious.

Salmon & Flying Fish Roe (RM 9.80)

There’s this mouth-filling sensation having this. The salmon was so fresh.😍

Salmon Sashimi (RM13.80)

Look at the marbling on the salmon!😍

Fried Egg (RM 3.80)

Can’t go wrong with tamagoyaki! Slightly sweet, delicate and comforting.

Seared Salmon with Cheese (RM 6.80)

This was so addictive!

Seared Crab Stick with Cheese (RM 4.80)

Good choice for those who’d prefer a lighter option.

Corn Mayo Inari (RM 4.80)

Flying Fish Roe Inari (RM 7.80)
Tuna Mayo Inari (RM 4.80)

Y’all know I have mad love for inari.❤ The Corn Mayo was so sweet and crunchy, Flying Fish Roe were generously stuffed into the bean curd skin and Tuna Mayo has actual tuna flakes in it and not mushy.

Udon with Smoked Duck (RM 8.80)

Highly recommended! Smoked Duck was ridiculously flavorful and not too chewy. The udon was springy and slurpi-licious paired perfectly with the broth which was so comforting and satisfying.

Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab (RM 16.80)

Exceptional texture and surprisingly juicy inside. Definitely a recommended dish.

Deep-fried Oyster (RM 13.80)

Crunchy deep-fried to perfection evenly coated with batter.

Deep-fried Rice Cake with Cheese (RM 7.80)

This has to be one of my personal favorite here. You got to have it while it’s piping hot and stretch those cheesy goodness.😛

Deep-fried Salmon Skin (RM 8.80)

For those who’d prefer something a little more healthier, you should definitely order this. It may not be as crispy and a little chewy as you’d get a wee bit of salmon flesh on it.

Takoyaki (RM 7.80)

It’s pretty yum, just the right springy texture from the octopus.

Grilled Scallop with Cheese (RM 8.90)

Love the creamy texture from the cheese and mayo topped on the scallop.

Grilled Eel [half] (RM 28.80)

Soft, firm and barely has fishy aftertaste. Highly recommended to unagi lovers!

Grilled Mackerel (RM 12.80)

If you’re not too fond with eels, mackerel could be the other alternative to go for. Lightly salted but still super flavorful.

Steamed Egg Custard (RM 3.80)

And of course we can’t forget helping ourselves with a piping hot chawanmushi.

Cheers!

Jyo Nigiri-zushi 7 Shu – 7 Types of Special Hand-made Sushi (RM 110)

People and People (PNP) offers traditional Japanese carefully prepared by a renowned chef to transform each dish with creative flair in his choice of ingredients and selective cuts of the finest produce. The spiritual essence of traditional Japanese cuisine is fully preserved yet enhanced with his maestro touch.

Personally I’m never a huge fan of eating raw fish and seafood but I was convinced by the chef’s professionalism and food quality to give a try. Needless to say I helped myself with a few pieces and indulged it. One of the nigiri sushi I’ve got to highlight is the soyu maguro, tuna marinated overnight in soy sauce giving it a whole different level.

Take Sashimi 5 Shu – 5 Types of Fresh Raw Fish (RM 110)

The chef also incorporate aesthetic elements of arrangement and presentation as practiced in Ikebana (Art of flower arrangement) to produce a 5-Star presentation.

Ultimately, guests will revel in a dining experience that is a feast fit for a king. I mean, how often do you see sushi beautifully plated like that?😍😍

Salmon Aburi Maki – Torched Salmon Roll (RM 38)

This was one of the few memorable dishes I had throughout dining here, I really enjoyed the lightly charred flavors on the salmon. Highly recommended!💖

Kani Chawan Mushi – Crab Steamed Egg Custard (RM 18)

Generous amount of crab meat topped on the creamy egg custard. The crab meat was simply sensational and barely rubbery. I could help myself with another one or two!

Karai Kasen Udon – Spicy Seafood Udon Thick Wheat Noodles (RM 35)

Perfect dish to warm your insides! Obsess with the chewy udon noodles soaked in the rich flavorful spicy broth. It wasn’t too spicy for me, so I had it all bottoms up.😋 Everything about this dish was so spectacular, another highly recommended dish.🍜

43485825_10216184267174918_4716750165552136192_n
Kurogama Ice – Black Sesame Ice Cream (RM 12)

Green tea ice cream is overrated and almost everywhere but finding REALLY GOOD black sesame ice cream is tougher. Nutty richness of the black sesame was intensely decadent. It wasn’t too sweet and the red bean paste complemented the ice cream admirably.

43510926_10216184266134892_2507519336105639936_n
Yuzu Sorbet – Citrus Fruit Sorbet (RM 12)

Simply refreshing and delightful yuzu sorbet that refreshes the palate after a heavy meal. It was so irresistibly tasty to have with citrusy-floral essence of the fruit.

43439924_10216184266734907_5050370962973786112_n
Mochi Ice – Japanese Mochi Ice Cream (RM 15)

Soft chewy mochi bursting with black sesame ice cream inside! If you’d like to have black sesame with some texture then you should totally give this a try.

Chi-zu Stikku Ice – Cheese Stick Ice Cream (RM 18)

By far my favorite dessert here! Thinly shelled cheesy-licious ice cream. It was like having cheesecake in one bite: creamy, rich and savory.❤

At PNP Japanese Cuisine Artistry, they elevate the joy of fine Japanese dining to new heights of passion with a creative approach. Visually, the dishes will be a feast for the eyes and food for the soul.

Psst! There will be an exclusive group of traditional Japanese dancers who will provide twice nightly performances on weekends. This is the first restaurant in Malaysia to host this!

Three Brothers Restaurant at Subang 2, Shah Alam

Back at it again with some ‘super atas’ dishes here at Three Brothers Restaurant. Just so you know, this isn’t your ordinary family restaurant. The simplest dish in their menu could be a little extra than usual.

Egg Floss served with Crab Meat – RM 76

To start with, their egg floss was crisp to perfection and paired well with some bits of crab meat along with some generous amount of ebiko. It was a really refreshing appetizer as it wasn’t too heavy to begin with.

Wrap them in fresh cabbage leaves with some of the chili sauce that came along with this dish. 💯👌

Cheesy Scallop Mantou topped with Ebiko  RM 12/piece

Now here’s what you don’t get from other restaurants. This delightfully simple yet  luxurious Mantou filled with creamy scallop chunks and scrummy pork bacon bits interior baked with cheese. Yasss!

Not going to lie but this is pretty darn addictive.

Steamed Clam topped with Minced Garlic & Chili – RM 12/piece

The texture is pretty superb with a combination of bouncy, slightly rubbery but easy to chew. You could still taste the natural flesh sweetness that complement the minced garlic & chili so well.

Braised Fish Maw & Stuffed Cabbage Rolls – RM 98

The fish maws were pack with flavors as it soaked up the enriched gravy while their cabbage rolls were simply delectable! Could I get more broccolis to dip the sauce though? 🤤

Garlic Roasted Iberico Ribs Platter – RM 176

The winner takes it all as Three Brothers Restaurant specializes in Iberico dishes. All-time favorite and loved by many will have to be this platter. The ribs were really juicy and ridiculously rich in flavors. It complements with the mint sauce very well as it gives a refreshing bite to it.

PS: Don’t fret about getting your hands dirty, gloves will be provided.

Slow Cooked Iberico Collar served with Steamed Mantou – RM 88

Heart eyes for this because I’m a sucker for mantous, and eating this with a slice of Iberico Collar? Delicioso.💖 The collar texture is a little more tougher and less juicier than the ribs but his would be a great alternative.

Who would’ve thought of adding some orange marmalade and barbecue sauce would bring this a whole different level.

Sous Vide Iberico Loin served with Pickled Cherry Tomatoes – RM 168

Though this may not tingle most taste buds, it is safe to eat this medium-rare pork loin. The texture is quite squishy but its really flavorful. Have it with some tomatoes to make the experience a lot more pleasurable.

PS: After a few bites you’ll actually enjoy this.😉

37192339_10215571166527785_957916795228913664_n
Caramel Roll with Red Bean Fillings – RM 18/6 pieces

Soft and chewy texture, the caramel roll actually tasted a lot like gula melaka with the sweetened red bean fillings weren’t as sweet as they looked.  Such a palatable dessert to end our meals with.

37161237_10215571167327805_2397453656615026688_n
Mochi with Durian Fillings – RM 30/6 pieces

As the durian hype is still ongoing, you’ve got to order this as your dessert! It has that soft yet slightly springy or most would say ‘Q’ texture with durian fillings making it so much more enjoyable. Plus the ‘atas’ touch of gold leaves on each mochi.

Lunch at Tao Chinese Cuisine, Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur

“Tao”, which means peach in Mandarin, is the new restaurant located on level one of the hotel and is immediately recognizable with a vibrant design using the bloom of the pale pink April peach flowers as a signature motif and a spectacular cloud-like inspired ceiling giving an impression of dining under the stars.

It was a pleasant dining experience for us to have Dim Sum Chef at Tao Chinese Cuisine, Chef Lo Tian Sion (羅天送) to savour in his toothsome dim sum made from premium quality ingredients.

20180131_121426-01
鲍鱼虾饺 Steamed Abalone Prawns “har kow” (RM 38)

The diced abalone was soft and barely chewy while prawns were so fresh and crunchy!

20180131_121459-01
帶子烧卖 Steamed Scallops “siew mai” (RM 19)

Siew Mai is one of my favorite food in the world! Lol Scallop was also soft and not even close to being overcooked giving it a nice melt in mouth-like texture.

20180131_121411-01
蜜汁叉烧鸡包 Steamed Diced Barbecued Chicken Bun (RM 14)

Bun texture was really fluffy while luscious filling of sweet ‘char siew’.

20180131_122313-01
腐皮芝士虾 Deep-fried Bean Curd Cheese Prawn Rolls (RM 20)

This was really addicting! It was deep-fried to crispy perfection stuffy with gooey cheese.

20180131_122223-01
软壳蚧肠粉 Rice Noodle Rolled with Fried Soft Shell Crab (RM 28)

Silky and smooth on the outside, crunchy and scrumptious inside! The sauce complemented with it very well. Loss of words on how spectacular this dish was!

20180131_122124-01
香葱虾米肠粉 Pan-fried Rice Noodle Rolled with Dried Shrimps & Spring Onions (RM 16)

The rice noodle has a nice light crisp from pan-frying and the dried shrimps made it extra flavorful.

20180131_122826-01
Wok-fried Egg Noodles with Chicken Strips, Salted Egg Yolk, Beansprout, Onions, Sesame Seeds and Chili Sauce (RM 48)

At first glance it may look like any other regular wok-fried egg noodles but when it comes to taste it was extravagant. The salted egg yolk was evenly coated on the noodles giving it some nice salty creamy eggy flavors. As the sesame seeds were wok-fried along with the noodles, it really does brings out the oomph of this dish.

20180131_123644-01
Stir-fried Seasonal Vegetables (RM 42)

Thick chunks of asparagus beautifully stir-fry with garlic was so juicy, crunchy and flavorful. Have you ever had vegetables that were so addictive?

20180131_131043-01
Chilled Aloe Vera, Peach and Osmanthus Oolong Tea Syrup (RM 26)

After a luscious meal, having this was so soothing and refreshing.

20180131_131347-01

20180131_132421-01
Deep-fried Sweet Potato “Ninko” (RM 18 / 3 pieces)

Super adorable “ninko” in disguise as mandarins. You’d get some sweetness from the sweet potato and gooey gooness from the “ninko” with some slight crispiness on the outside deep-fried to golden perfection.

If you’re looking forward on planning a Chinese New Year gathering, you should check out their menus and offers on their page right here!

Western Delight by Chef Hadzrin Mohd

20171207_113420-01

We got an opportunity to attend the cooking demonstration by Chef Hadzrin where the dishes he’ll be preparing for us will be using products by Knorr. It’s all about simple cooking for anyone and everyone. Besides, who wouldn’t love Western cuisines?

20171207_113808-01

Participants will be able to get their hands-on preparing the every dish in the menu alongside with Chef Hadzrin.

20171207_114243-01
Seafood Aglio Olio

The ingredients used were Knorr Italian Herb Paste and Knorr Aromat Seasoning Powder. Pasta wasn’t too salty and it was beautifully sauteed with garlic flavors and has some nice heat to it from the chili flakes. Look at the amount of seafood plopped into this dish! Everything was cleared within a minute.

20171207_120346-01

20171207_120631-01
Cheezy Mashed Potato

Ingredients were Knorr Mashed Potato Mix and Knorr Cheese Sauce Mix. This is something really easy and fun to do! Mixed the mashed potato mixture evenly then stuffed it with diced cheddar cheese and bring it to fry till golden brown. Instead of having it the usual way, why not spice things up a little?😄

20171207_122933-01
Golden Creamy Pasta

Ingredients used were Planta Margarine and Knorr Golden Salted Egg Powder. This is another pasta dish although you can’t really see the pasta as it is hidden by the sauce and chicken chop. The sauce was cooked with curry leaves, bird eye’s chilies, onion and garlic making it less bland and more flavorful. Chef Hadzrin suggested on adding the chicken chop giving it a whole different level.😋

20171207_130050-01
Hickory Herbs Grilled Chicken

For the last dish, the ingredients used were Knorr Hickory Smoke BBQ Sauce, Knorr Mashed Potato Mix and KCP. I love dishes with protein, greens and starch. This is like the 3 key ingredients for Western cuisines.

20171207_121205-01

Here are some of the products used for the cooking demonstration.

Can’t wait to attend more cooking demos in the future as there’s always something new Ito learn about such as food facts and hacks to create a perfect dish!
