Genki Sushi at Sunway Pyramid

Words can’t describe how hype I was when I was told Genki Sushi is back in Malaysia! Welcome back and I’ve missed you, Genki Sushi!😚

In celebration of its first outlet opening in Malaysia, Genki Sushi will be launching its menu consisting of 122 core food items that will definitely satiate your appetite along with the selections on the Dai Man Zoku and Genki Premium Selection menu.

Fun Fact: Did you know Genki Sushi’s ‘angry face’ logo is to visualize a serious, professional and confident face of a Japanese sushi expert chef?😡

This time they’ve stepped up their A-game and will definitely make their diners thrilled with the debut of its ‘Kousoku Express’ sushi delivery system and signature Dai Man Zoku selections here at Sunway Pyramid.

What’s Kousoku Express if you’re wondering? Instead of using the regular conveyor belt with plates of sushi making rounds after rounds, it delivers food items directly from the kitchen to the table as they want to ensure what they serve has to be fresh which also provide diners a different level of dining experience.

True to its innovation legacy since historic times in Japan, Genki Sushi continously incorporates technology into their preparation processes, capturing Japanese efficiency and speed at its best all whilst preserving quality simultaneously.

After the opening ceremony and sake breaking, we had an opportunity to make our very own Temaki. Not going to lie but it was pretty fun getting to test our skills. Guess who won 2nd prize and won RM30 dining vouchers?😂

Here’s how we’ll be ordering our food! A QR code will be provided upon seated and you may start ordering straight off from your phone. There’s no need to fuss on waiting for your turn to use the tab to order what you want.😬

I love how they provide Green Tea Powder instead of sachets. It has this really nice hints of vegetal and oceanic flavors to it.

Here’s a peek on what we had for those who crave nostalgia or ones who are curious what makes Genki Sushi different:

Scallop (RM 6.80)

We ordered some sushi from their ‘Premium Collection’. It was simply tender, sweet carefully butterfly-cut scallop. Simple yet pleasantly delicious.

Salmon & Flying Fish Roe (RM 9.80)

There’s this mouth-filling sensation having this. The salmon was so fresh.😍

Salmon Sashimi (RM13.80)

Look at the marbling on the salmon!😍

Fried Egg (RM 3.80)

Can’t go wrong with tamagoyaki! Slightly sweet, delicate and comforting.

Seared Salmon with Cheese (RM 6.80)

This was so addictive!

Seared Crab Stick with Cheese (RM 4.80)

Good choice for those who’d prefer a lighter option.

Corn Mayo Inari (RM 4.80)

Flying Fish Roe Inari (RM 7.80)
Tuna Mayo Inari (RM 4.80)

Y’all know I have mad love for inari.❤ The Corn Mayo was so sweet and crunchy, Flying Fish Roe were generously stuffed into the bean curd skin and Tuna Mayo has actual tuna flakes in it and not mushy.

Udon with Smoked Duck (RM 8.80)

Highly recommended! Smoked Duck was ridiculously flavorful and not too chewy. The udon was springy and slurpi-licious paired perfectly with the broth which was so comforting and satisfying.

Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab (RM 16.80)

Exceptional texture and surprisingly juicy inside. Definitely a recommended dish.

Deep-fried Oyster (RM 13.80)

Crunchy deep-fried to perfection evenly coated with batter.

Deep-fried Rice Cake with Cheese (RM 7.80)

This has to be one of my personal favorite here. You got to have it while it’s piping hot and stretch those cheesy goodness.😛

Deep-fried Salmon Skin (RM 8.80)

For those who’d prefer something a little more healthier, you should definitely order this. It may not be as crispy and a little chewy as you’d get a wee bit of salmon flesh on it.

Takoyaki (RM 7.80)

It’s pretty yum, just the right springy texture from the octopus.

Grilled Scallop with Cheese (RM 8.90)

Love the creamy texture from the cheese and mayo topped on the scallop.

Grilled Eel [half] (RM 28.80)

Soft, firm and barely has fishy aftertaste. Highly recommended to unagi lovers!

Grilled Mackerel (RM 12.80)

If you’re not too fond with eels, mackerel could be the other alternative to go for. Lightly salted but still super flavorful.

Steamed Egg Custard (RM 3.80)

And of course we can’t forget helping ourselves with a piping hot chawanmushi.

Whole Baked Salmon

If you’re looking for something lighter, the salmon was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the salads. It was simply inviting just looking at it, you’d catch yourself going for two or three rounds.

Turkey was beautifully brine to assures the moisture was there and pretty flavorful with a dash of turkey gravy. I’ve got the admit stuffing was quite moist it almost feels like it came from inside of the turkey.

Rustic Baked Whole Sea Bass with Lemon

Pleasingly baked, with a hint of zesty flavors from the lemon. I love how the fish was lightly salted which you can get a better taste of the bold fresh flavors in the sea bass. Another dish I’d recommend!

Jyo Nigiri-zushi 7 Shu – 7 Types of Special Hand-made Sushi (RM 110)

People and People (PNP) offers traditional Japanese carefully prepared by a renowned chef to transform each dish with creative flair in his choice of ingredients and selective cuts of the finest produce. The spiritual essence of traditional Japanese cuisine is fully preserved yet enhanced with his maestro touch.

Personally I’m never a huge fan of eating raw fish and seafood but I was convinced by the chef’s professionalism and food quality to give a try. Needless to say I helped myself with a few pieces and indulged it. One of the nigiri sushi I’ve got to highlight is the soyu maguro, tuna marinated overnight in soy sauce giving it a whole different level.

Take Sashimi 5 Shu – 5 Types of Fresh Raw Fish (RM 110)

The chef also incorporate aesthetic elements of arrangement and presentation as practiced in Ikebana (Art of flower arrangement) to produce a 5-Star presentation.

Ultimately, guests will revel in a dining experience that is a feast fit for a king. I mean, how often do you see sushi beautifully plated like that?😍😍

Salmon Aburi Maki – Torched Salmon Roll (RM 38)

This was one of the few memorable dishes I had throughout dining here, I really enjoyed the lightly charred flavors on the salmon. Highly recommended!💖

Kani Chawan Mushi – Crab Steamed Egg Custard (RM 18)

Generous amount of crab meat topped on the creamy egg custard. The crab meat was simply sensational and barely rubbery. I could help myself with another one or two!

Karai Kasen Udon – Spicy Seafood Udon Thick Wheat Noodles (RM 35)

Perfect dish to warm your insides! Obsess with the chewy udon noodles soaked in the rich flavorful spicy broth. It wasn’t too spicy for me, so I had it all bottoms up.😋 Everything about this dish was so spectacular, another highly recommended dish.🍜

43485825_10216184267174918_4716750165552136192_n
Kurogama Ice – Black Sesame Ice Cream (RM 12)

Green tea ice cream is overrated and almost everywhere but finding REALLY GOOD black sesame ice cream is tougher. Nutty richness of the black sesame was intensely decadent. It wasn’t too sweet and the red bean paste complemented the ice cream admirably.

Yuzu Sorbet – Citrus Fruit Sorbet (RM 12)

Simply refreshing and delightful yuzu sorbet that refreshes the palate after a heavy meal. It was so irresistibly tasty to have with citrusy-floral essence of the fruit.

Mochi Ice – Japanese Mochi Ice Cream (RM 15)

Soft chewy mochi bursting with black sesame ice cream inside! If you’d like to have black sesame with some texture then you should totally give this a try.

Chi-zu Stikku Ice – Cheese Stick Ice Cream (RM 18)

By far my favorite dessert here! Thinly shelled cheesy-licious ice cream. It was like having cheesecake in one bite: creamy, rich and savory.❤

At PNP Japanese Cuisine Artistry, they elevate the joy of fine Japanese dining to new heights of passion with a creative approach. Visually, the dishes will be a feast for the eyes and food for the soul.

Psst! There will be an exclusive group of traditional Japanese dancers who will provide twice nightly performances on weekends. This is the first restaurant in Malaysia to host this!

ARTEASTRY at TRACE Restaurant & Bar, Element Kuala Lumpur

20180107_130447-01

Last weekend, I’ve had an “artciting” afternoon tea and it was truly entertaining to watch some artsy chef turning half of our table into a whole new level of delectable piece of dessert-art while after having some scrumptious savoury bites of their latest menu.

As it is still one of the latest hotel in the city center and not everyone may have heard of it yet, the restaurant is situated 40 floors above the ground in Element Kuala Lumpur and it is also the latest sky dining venue in town that offers a stunning bird’s eye view of the city. The restaurant offers a delectable variety of food options – from healthy western-fusion delights to the coolest cocktail trends in town.

For video, click here.

The savoury platter made its way with a dramatic entrance when it was placed on the table as the dry ice smokes its way around. The platter comes with 5 types of savoury bites and it looks as good as it taste!

Beef Mushroom Herbs Croquettes has a beautiful golden crunchy shell and the fillings were moist as you get some nice hints of minced mushrooms and beef.

Smoked Turkey Breast in Paris Brest was something fresh as Paris Brest are often served as a dessert stuffed with mousseline cream. Love love love.

Soy Glazed Portobello Focaccia would be loved by many vegetarian diners! I really love how the mushrooms were diced just the right size so you could get some good munch of it and distinctive flavors.

20180107_134442-01

Red Pepper Tomato Macaroon was bursts with bright summer flavor. I know Malaysia is all-summer but you get what I mean! It was again something unique and fresh giving your taste buds some curiosity.

20180107_134006-01

Salmon Apple Avocado in Basil Cone was one of a kind. This was actually one of my favorite among the five.

20180107_133913-01

And what’s afternoon tea without scones? They’re light, airy and just the right amount of crusty surface which makes these scones absolutely perfect. The chocolate spread was delicious and Chantilly cream melts in your mouth instantly.

When it comes to their dessert, ‘Into The Forest’ was prepared by Chef Amelia which takes about 5 minutes to get the masterpiece done.

For video, click here.😅

MAKEUP_20180107234358_save-01

Voila! You know its godlike when the sun was shining in directly on this miraculous edible masterpiece and its just too good to be eaten. This piece of art contains Heavy Brownie, Toasted Marshmallows, Chlorophyll Crumble, Chocolate Soil, Mango Chutney, Fresh Strawberries and Light Cream.

I love how the chocolate wasn’t too sweet which complemented the rest of the sweeter elements on this piece and the portion was just right. Not too much, not too little.

This afternoon tea would be the perfect venue for birthdays, couples and ‘girls catching up session’ as it is quiet and you’ve got your own little private space.

The price is RM 128 nett for 2 persons serving only on weekends and public holidays at 1 PM to 5 PM. Click here for more of TRACE’s dining offers or here for what’s serving in their restaurant!

March Azalea Kitchen is known for its fusion of Malaysian and Japanese flavors and their signature Egg Rice menu. Their ambiance is pretty cozy and relaxing especially where they’ve got a long table with skylight ceilings. FYI plants in pots by the wall are for sale! Seats may be a little limited so if you’re looking forward on trying their food, visit them during weekdays would be best. Their service is pretty good and food doesn’t takes too long to arrive!

King Oyster Mushroom Salad (RM 12.80)

If you’re looking for something low on carbs, this would be the best choice yet so delicious. Its vegetarian-friendly too! Makes it enjoyable to have something chewy and flavorful  in the salad from those sliced King Oyster Mushrooms and tempeh.

20171026_152910-01

Salmon Belly Egg Rice (RM 14.80)

It’s the same Egg Rice as above except this bowl is served with salmon belly. Just so you know, salmon belly is meant to be in a thin strip. It’s really soft, moist and not even a stench of fishy flavors in it.

20171218_190014-01
Sambal Petai Egg Rice (RM 13.80)

What you’re looking at right now is their signature dish and as you know, Malaysians love their ‘stinky’ food. This rice bowl was really addicting! We’ve been told that some customers would have up to 3 bowls by themselves! Would totally do the same.

The Whisky Society 2017

This year’s The Whisky Society isn’t only about whisky but also SPIRITS such as rum, gin, sake and much more! With 20 brands serving over 50 variants, the event also expanded the space to 2 floors with garden access, food trucks and extended the festival time from 2pm to 10pm on a Saturday so that everyone can come over and sip throughout the day.

The concept of the festival was simple: a tasting glass will be given upon entry and simply approach any whisky booth to request a dram for a taste. As suggested that everyone should taste at least every whisky once on the first round and then proceed to their favorites. It is an unlimited tasting event after all, there’s no need to rush!🍸
Drink responsibly people!

Whenever anyone asks me “Any good sushi place at Bukit Bintang you’d recommend that’s really good yet affordable?” I’d just reply “Ichiban Boshi.” with a huge grin.

After visiting Yokoso Tastefully Japan (if you’ve not read about it click here), me and my homegirl Vanessa went window shopping at Pavilion and after a long walk we were craving for some hot drinks with good food which of course, we had to drop by!

We were craving for more Japanese food after all.

Chawanmushi (RM 4.80)

To begin with, we wanted some hot appetizer. The texture of the egg custard was comforting, silky smooth, really rich in flavors and was also beautifully cooked.

Their chawanmushi was loaded with sliced shitake mushrooms, a chunk of chicken and gingko.

It makes such a lovely starter!

Their service was fantastic and staffs were absolutely hospitable. Your cup of tea will never be left empty! They’d also ensure your overall dining experience was beyond satisfactory.

Next we’ll let the photos do the talking. One thing for sure, all of them were like having a party in your mouth!

IMG-20170723-WA0032-02

Just about 2 months ago I celebrated my 21st birthday here with my favorite ones and it was music to my ears that everyone enjoyed the food, ambiance and company as much as I did.♥

I’m glad I’ve picked the right venue as it’s absolutely convenient for anyone to get here! Strategically located where you could get here by almost any public transport from KL Monorail, RapidKL buses, Kelana Jaya Line LRT and MRT. Just a few minutes walk and some are right across the street!

Big Breakfast (RM16)

The portion was pretty BIG! But it was just the right portion you wouldn’t be too stuffed. Croissant was rich and buttery, scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, chicken sausage was flavorful, perfectly sautéed mushroomsbeef bacon and baked beans were alright.

Omelette (RM13)

Omelette stuffed with tomatoes and ham. Perfect for one’s who’d prefer something lighter for breakfast. As for their garden salad, superb refreshing. Their greens were crispy and fresh!

Salmon Au Gratin (RM29)

The baked salmon fillet was incredibly juicy and flavorful where is then topped with bechamel cheese sauce which was delicious and wasn’t too salty. As for the mashed potatoes, it was at the texture that’s just right for holding a pool of flavorful gravy. Yes, more garden salad for me!

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM18)

This cheesy pasta dish is definitely an all-time favourite to many. The chef was really generous with the amount of beef bacon and mushrooms!

Spaghetti Scoglio (RM19)

This classic seafood pasta made loaded with crustaceans will take you back to those holidays of you relaxing by the beach enjoying the sea breeze.

What’s missing right here is a lovely glass of Vermentino!

Brownie with Ice Cream♥ (RM10)

One of their signature dessert that has stolen many hearts with their amazing bittersweet contrast topped with vanilla ice cream. As for myself, I’d prefer having it without the ice cream where I could indulge the brownie better.

After our amazing lunch we decided to explore more of the cafe, the Darkroom. Perfect spot for some aesthetic photos. I tried though.

Note: Check with the manager or any floor staffs before heading upstairs!
