Minimalist interior breakfast & brunch restaurant that offers quite a variety of breakfast you could think of. Pretty insta-worthy for those who enjoys taking pictures.
Note: This is a self service restaurant so do remember to collect your orders and clean up your mess after you’ve finished your meal!
Fluffy Kid (RM 17)
Lightly seasoned, not too much wow factors about this but if you don’t feel like having carbs this is a pretty good option to go for.
Scrambled eggs were fluffy as promised however the diced luncheon meat was a little mushy. The side salad was crisp, fresh and delicious!
Like Burger Like Sandwich (RM 20)
One thing I love about this place is that that they don’t use regular white breads in their menu but hearty & healthy ones like this one right here, Purple Chia Seed Toast. The pork loin in the sandwich was pretty juicy.
Multigrain Toast (RM 14)
A simple yet filling choice for vegetarian diners. Generous spread of avocado with a sunny side up.
Didn’t tried any of their drinks because we wanted to go elsewhere for coffee.
Might probably visit this place again but not anytime soon.🤷🏻♀️
NanYang Cafe is a local culinary brand who offers fusion interpretation of Nanyang delicacies.
You may have to queue for a table during lunch hours as hungry customers come about for their signature favourites such as Hong Kong Style Wanton Noodles, Freshly Baked Polo Bun, Nanyang Coffee & Tea.
Prawns & Wonton with Noodles in Soup (RM 11.90)
Their springy noodles and silky juicy prawn wontons rest in a hearty bowl of hot aromatic broth had indeed gained their recognition.
Would definitely recommend this dish.👍
Special Pork Knuckle in Preserved Bean Sauce with Tossed Noodles (RM 12.90)
If you’re looking for something a little more heavier, you should give this a try.
For its price and generous portion of pork knuckle offered, it was definitely worth it. It was really well marinated and almost melt to mouth texture.
Lettuce with Oyster Sauce (RM 7.90)
Beautifully blanched but glad the oyster sauce wasn’t mixed into the lettuce because it was ridiculously salty!
Signature Jumbo Toast with Ice Cream (RM 16.80)
Got to admit the toast was delicious and lightly buttered. It’s definitely not a dessert for 2 but for a 3 – 4 pax.
Would’ve been better if there’s an additional scoop of ice cream so it wouldn’t be too dry. Not recommended and worth the value.🙅♀️
I would strongly recommend to go for the freshly baked breads instead. It was definitely a lot more satisfying than the Jumbo Toast we had.
Pineapple Bun with Butter (RM 4/each)
HK street food cravings satisfied!💕 I love how they placed a thick slice of butter on top of an ice cube. It’s really soft and fluffy!
If the crust on the bun was crunchy crumbly sweet cookie-like it would’ve made is so much better. Definitely my favorite and to-go-for at this establishment.
Pumpkin & Cheese Bun (RM 4/each)
Same texture as the Pineapple Bun except this one has cream cheese fillings.
Nanyang Milk Tea (RM 4.90)
A hot cup of milk tea to pair with some breads. It tastes exactly like a ‘Teh Tarik’. Looks like one too!
It’s a decent place to have your HK cravings fixed and for its value. Would definitely drop by again for their Pineapple Bun!
The Berry Tale just had their Grand Opening a couple of days ago as another community cafe that offers variety of nourishing options perfect for anyone who’s into healthy lifestyle.
Here are some of the dishes we’ve tried:
The chicken was really juicy and packed with flavors, I’d say its paired pretty well with the mango chutney. Fries could be a little more crispier and deep fried till golden perfection.
Note: This is only available from 12 noon onwards!
I was in joy the moment I saw there’s cauliflower rice! Bare in mind that it isn’t bland nor under-seasoned, but also don’t be shy to request for salt and pepper if you’d like it more palatable. Hey, it’s a tastier way to stuff yourself with some veges! The grilled salmon chunks were delicious and went really well with the rice however it was a missed that the edamame, almond slices and walnut toppings were missing on the plate.
Overall if you’re looking for a light meal, I’d still highly recommend this though!
Once again I’m so happy they’ve got this on the menu as well! Its almost like having a Thai salad because of the peanut sauce and also has a nice heat to it. Definitely makes a perfect light and tasty meal for anyone who’s trying to cut carbs.
I love that they’ve replace coconut milk or ‘santan’ with coconut oil and ‘ikan bilis’ with silver fish instead as you barely feel the guilt of eating our local comfort food. Everything about this dish was so good! Chicken was fried to perfection, sambal was brilliant and ‘acar’ was simply refreshing and the silver fish were so crispy. Would definitely recommend this dish as well!
There is no diet that will do what eating healthy does. Skip the diet and just eat healthy! I’d definitely be back for more.

During lunch hours, Chen Chen BBQ Goose & Duck is one of the few popular lunch spots and gets really packed so you may need to wait for a while to get a table. Unless you don’t mind sharing!
The price here still remains reasonable for all and had always tasted the same since the first generation when the owner’s father started this business.
Soup of the day was delicious and simply whets one’s appetite before devouring into the star dishes! Its both salty and spicy yet flavorful from the salted vegetables and the ginger that is added.
I couldn’t help but to order some of these springy chewy meatballs as it makes a simple hearty soup extra comforting. I’m a sucker for meatballs.
Some fat crunchy stubby sprouts with a dash of soy sauce and sesame oil is always the best companion for any roast meat regardless chicken or goose.
Here’s the greasy goodness of their mouth-watering roast goose most of the diners are here for. It was beautifully roasted with a slight gamey taste to it and still juicy on the inside.
Note: Dip them in their homemade plum sauce to make it a lot more palatable.
Other than their roast goose, the roast duck was definitely finger-licking as well. I really love how the skin does not have a thick layer of chewy fat making it so much more palatable.
Not to mention Chen Chen’s crisp crackling roasted pork belly. Although it isn’t one of the few ‘starred dish’ to have here, its definitely still worth a try. If you didn’t noticed, there’s just a thin layer of fat on it as well.
Chen Chen BBQ Goose & Duck may just be just a hawker stall but the owner never fails to put on his chef jacket and keeps a bright smile to his regulars and new customers.
Best to visit before lunch hours to avoid the crowds!

The Northern fare Rasa Utara is celebrating its 34th year of business, and currently the outlet operating in Berjaya Times Square aims to serve the best of Northern inspired cuisines.
Ironic enough, throughout my studies in this building I’ve never thought of walking into this restaurant before as it was a little beyond the ‘student budget’ and most of my course mates would often prefer Western cuisines.
The fried chicken was deep-fried to golden perfection and unbelievably juicy hot with crisp cracklingly flavorful skin though it wasn’t thickly coated with batter. This would go so well with a plate of Nasi Jagung.
If you love your food with some good amount of heat in it, this signature chicken dish with their homemade stir-fried chili paste will blow your mind. Though fried chicken was a little dry but you’ll find yourself reaching for spoons after spoons of their chili paste.
Mouth-watering deliciousness, this spicy and tangy Malaysian fish dish that is sure to whet your appetite. I love the right amount of tang in the curry, making it so appetizing.
Rasa Utara’s signature dish, the fish was well marinated with herbs and spices then deep-fried to crisp perfection. Having the fish by itself without needing any condiments to enhance its flavors although it is to paired with their signature blend of caramilised sweet soy sauce and sambal ‘nuclear’ (hot sambal) for a full and flavourful taste.
Squid stuffed with minced chicken and potato, deep fried and served with their special Kapitan sauce. The squid texture was surprisingly wasn’t rubbery and the stuffings were simply delightful. Just having the batter on its own was addicting. Kapitan sauce was creamy in texture with a rich coconut milk aftertaste.
I’ve got to admit that sambal, prawn and petai are meant to be together! Every bite of this dish was bursting with flavors. You’d get that nice nutty crunch of petai, really fresh prawns and sambal with just the right amount of heat. I’d highly recommended having this dish!
Be sure to standby plenty of rice when you’re having these eggplants generously smothered with sambal! This was so addicting I could almost have this all by myself.
Let’s be frank, almost anything ‘masak lemak’ will taste good.😂 The fern shoots were cooked till nice and soft while the gravy wasn’t too heavy and has wonderful aromas of the coconut milk.
The soup was simply earthy, meaty, warm and comforting with the amazing bursting flavors from varietal of local spices. This is a definite MUST-ORDER soup when you’re dining here.
Instead of having plain rice, you’d get a wonderful touch of sweetness and juicy crunch as you enjoy it with some dishes.
The curry was so compelling! You’d catching yourself devouring into this humble bowl of noodles in no time. Look at the size of that prawn!
Mee soto ayam is one my favourite dishes. Clear flavorsome chicken broth with rice cakes served with unselfish amount of shredded chicken. Perfect dish to have on a cold rainy day.
This chilled dessert is so refreshing and comforting at the same time after a spicy meal. It was just at the right soft but chewy texture and perfect balance of sweetness from the gula melaka.
The cendol was a missed, we had to request for more gula melaka to get back its consistency. I’d personally prefer having the Sago Gula Melaka though.😅
Rasa Utara positions itself as a place for families and friends to get together, whilst also being an avenue for the professional crowd, it hopes that its contemporary setting, complemented with authentic, heart-warming food, will prove to be a draw for those seeking a genuine experience of the North.

Mokka, who just set foot in Bukit Jalil is a newly start up cafe founded by a few kind and humble souls who cares upmost on serving great food and coffee.
This cafe is a family and kids-friendly community cafe that offers scrumptious local delicacies bridging greatness from the East and West, comes with affordable pricing, genuine and consistent quality.
Today we’re lucky to give you guys a quick sneak peak on what’s on their menu before their opening tomorrow!😁
As we wanted something lighter to begin with, the sautéed mushrooms were flavorful and beautifully brown on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside. Amazing deep flavors that wasn’t too overpowering with some thinly spread of cream cheese on the sliced baguette was simply refreshing.
I personally would strongly recommend this dish as they’ve put generous amount of aromatic curry leaves to complement their handmade salted egg yolk sauce they’ve made from scratch. You get nice grainy bits of salted egg yolk as you chomp on the juicy piece of chicken chop. One bite is enough to make you crave for more!
There’s an option of choosing Spiced Chicken Rendang or Crispy Fried Chicken to go with your nasi lemak. Sorry there’s no Crispy Chicken Rendang here, Chef Gregg Wallace!🤷 Though I find the rendang paste a little brackish, its really tasty and paired beautifully with the rice with lovely hints of pandan. I got to love the deep-fried hard boiled egg and ‘acar’ too.😄
Definitely can’t go wrong with chicken wings! Light and crisp texture, barely greasy with juicy interior. There’s need not of any dips because its already mouth-watering just having it by its own. Ain’t no thang like a chicken wing.
I’ve got the admit the chefs did an excellent job in deep-frying their food without leaving a greasy-aftertastes. These simple yet humble snacks are loved by many for its crispy exterior with soft and fluffy interior.
You’ve got to order this while you’re there! It wasn’t too sweet as there was a perfect balance of cocoa, espresso and milk topped with thick milk foam and carefully drizzled with honey then brûlée.
Enjoy with a kick start your journey with Mokka, though it may be a small and cozy cafe, who knows they may be on a stepping stone to be the next best community cafe!

Restoran Dragon Star has been around for over a decade in this big neighborhood and always been the family restaurant to go for. The restaurant also focuses more on authentic Cantonese cooking. Keepin’ it real!
Here are some of the highlighted dishes on what we had for dinner:
Free-ranged chicken beautifully marinated in Sand Ginger Powder, giving it a better texture to chomp on. Taste wise its almost like having Salt-baked Chicken except you get to enjoy the skin a lot more.😛
I absolutely love Chinese-style steamed fish (fresh-from-the-tank) with soy sauce as it lends the fish sweet and salty flavors. The chef also taught us how to identify if the fish was frozen or from the tank based on its texture. Frozen fish brought to steamed would still look the same while fresh from the tank would look eh, distorted?🤷
The prawns were tender and springy in texture and beautifully coated in their finger-licking homemade mayo sauce with a hint of zest making it an absolute refreshing dish.
Highly recommended for prawn lovers!🍤❤
Pork ribs were absolutely flavorful & well marinated served with crispy vegetable fritters. Its almost like having char siew except you get to indulge the juicy tender meat and fat so much more.
It was quite a crowd-pleasing dish to go for.
The lamb was deliciously braised till tender and gravy was simply rich and flavorsome plus generously filled with dried bean curd and mixed vegetables making it so much better.
This simple hearty dish will have you feeling delightful and comforting.
Dishes after dishes of meat, its fair to have some braised tofu and seasonal vegetables to have a little balance in our body.😂 The sauce was really appetizing, it makes you just want to top it on some plain rice. Not to mention the generous amount of fresh vegetables in this pot!
Bring your family & friends over, its definitely worth dining for! My personal favorite dish from this restaurant has to be the fish. What’s yours?

If you’ve not read my previous post about this luncheon, click here for the full details.
Their luncheon was indeed impressive from its ambiance to the food. Welcome drinks and canapes were served around the ballroom before everyone was to be seated.
Dee’s special appearance as Cik Timah created a lively ambiance during lunch service was indeed entertaining as promised. The outfits were amazing, LOVE the dress in this photo.
Dayang & the Sky Band performing all-time favorite local songs as we were having our lunch.
Here’s the 4-course meal we had:
Starter:
A nice starter to begin with, I really enjoyed the chicken as it was quite flavorful while the oyster shooter was almost like having a Bloody Mary with a tingling sensation with a slight heat to it on the aftertaste.
Soup:
Soup was served piping hot with a more lighter and watery texture to it however it was nutritiously delicious. Really did enjoyed the bits of bird’s nest from every spoonful I had.
Main Course:
This entree was the star in the menu, it was so hearty and comforting though it may have been a little cold. The prawns were beautifully paired with the Apple Rendang and Green Curry. Got to admit the Apple Rendang may sound a little odd but it tasted spectacular. Chicken was so moist and juicy, love how it goes well with the mashed purple sweet potatoes.
Dessert:
Most of us were also swooned by the Durian Pancake, first bite and you get that instant oomph from the durian flesh. It was amiss to those who weren’t too fond with durian but at least there’s still a delectable piece of Chocolate Brownies to go for.
Thank you for the invitation, John and Dee for being a wonderful and lively host throughout the lunch. xx

Upon touchdown at the airport, I was craving for some good meal to kick start my trip in Penang island. We were starving and didn’t had the best sandwich on board. As I remember the Nasi 7 Benua was just around the corner, so be it!
You wouldn’t missed the restaurant as there’s a huge sign outside of their restaurant. Unless you or your Uber driver was speeding then probably.😅
This restaurant has been opened for 3 years and apparently they’re the first to start this whole 7-colored rice concept! Ever since their rice dish has been viral all over social media, hundreds of plates were sold daily and there are even days where they’d be completely sold out. Be there at 11:30AM to avoid the lunch crowd!
Rice were carefully cupped into the little mould. It may not seem much but there’s literally a portion of a full bowl of rice there. What are the types of rice if you’re wondering?
Nasi Putih (Plain Rice)
Nasi Tomato (Tomato Rice)
Nasi Kacang (Dhal Rice)
Nasi Pandan (Pandan Rice)
Nasi Minyak (Ghee Rice)
Nasi Lamuni (Lemuni Rice)
Nasi Hujan Panas (Rainbow Rice)
The varietal of dishes to go with the rice is simply scrumptious as well!
Isn’t it mouth-watering looking at them?🤤
Here’s what I had as suggested by the founder of Nasi 7 Benua, Nurul :
Ayam Masak Merah (Chicken in Red Chili Sauce) & Ayam Masak Kicap (Dark Soy Sauce Chicken) is a MUST HAVE! To be frank I wasn’t really convinced because most of the time when I have these dishes at a wedding luncheon or Raya meals they’re rather dry but I was wrong, both chicken was tender and juicy.
The Ayam Masak Kicap had us guffaw because Nurul told us the locals here would order it as ‘Ayam Negro‘.🙊 It’s a local thing, no racism intended.😳
Its a great place for lunch and I’d like to thank Nurul and her family for the great hospitality.

The struggle when stepping into a restaurant and you can’t decide which dish to go for especially when you’re on a tight budget with only one stomach.😰
Sushi Zento is back with their Mix & Match set lunch where you can pick any 2 dishes as per the menu above! If you’re only craving for that one dish, make it double!✌ It’s only available on weekdays excluding public holidays and strictly for dine-ins only.
Portion wise is pretty decent, not too heavy nor little.
Some dishes may be a little small but at least you’ll get the best of both.😛
Anyways, here’s a quick peek on some of the dishes from their menu!
Personally I’d recommend these few dishes; the Buta Kakuni (Stewed Pork Belly) was ridiculously flavorful also has a perfectly balanced sweet and savory flavor to it. Not so Japanese, but it doesn’t matter!😂 Most importantly its super soft in texture. The Pork Katsu (Deep-fried Pork Cutlet) wascrispy and golden brown outside, tender and juicy within. Ebi Teppan (Pan-fried Prawn with Garlic Butter Sauce) will definitely be loved by ones who enjoy garlicky dishes. Their Salmon Teriyaki (Grilled Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce) andWakadori Karaage (Deep-fried Marinated Chicken) aren’t too bad as well, that’s if you don’t mind the portion.
You should consider bringing your friends, family and even your colleagues over here for lunch! To spill the beans, there might be a really special promo happening on their restaurant’s anniversary and you wouldn’t want to miss it!🤫
