The texture of the fish was quintessential. It was crispy on the outside, light and delicate inside.

New Year’s Eve Reunion & Spring Packages 除夕团圆套餐 新春套餐 at Three Brothers Restaurant 三兄弟

Chinese New Year reunion dinners never always has to be in fancy restaurants and hotels but somewhere around your neighborhood works the same. Here in Three Brothers Restaurant, you’d be able to enjoy premium quality dishes and probably dishes you wouldn’t expect to have it here at all!

20180108_194503-01
Yee Sang (RM 48/half portion RM 58/whole portion)

The Prosperity Toss was really refreshing. None of the elements on this plate were dry at all. Yes I know there’s probably nothing much to boast about yee sang because ‘it all tasted the same’ but not here …

20180108_194320-01
Deep Fried Fish Skin (RM 12)
20180108_194349-01
Red Clam Sashimi (RM 24) & Salmon Sashimi (RM 24)

20180108_195126-01

Voila! The fish skin was crispy almost like having potato chips but a much healthier option. Salmon sashimi was ridiculously fresh and has a melt-in-mouth texture while the Red Clam or Akagai sashimi has a nice mild, subtle taste.

20180108_200722-01

20180108_200509-01
Double Boiled Geoduck Soup (RM 176)

This soup is loaded with goodies! Sliced geoduck, fish maws, muhsrooms, half chicken and many more! It tasted much sweeter and flavorful as the soup releases the flavors from the ingredients gradually.

20180108_202746-01
Garlic Onion Steamed Grouper (RM 188)

It may not be a pretty but strange-looking fish but it is absolutely aromatic, delicious, and not greasy at all. What I love about grouper fish is that you get to enjoy more of the fish not needing to worry much of the bones. The sauce is what makes this dish even better!

20180108_210532-01
Iberico Platter (RM 380)

Who would’ve expected a Hispanic-Portuguese inspired European dish in a Chinese restaurant which was definitely one of the show-stopping dish in the menu! This dish is often served as a dinner centerpiece in Spain. It’s like Roasted Turkey for Christmas!

20180108_210513-01
Roasted Iberico Ribs

These intensely juicy and succulent pork with superior flavor these has an excellent meat-to-bone ratio which makes them so immensely satisfying as well as exquisite.

20180108_210138-01
Iberico de Cebo served with Rock Melon & Caviar

Deliciously cured Iberian ham in beautifully marbled and deep red in color. It also has a nice smooth fat with low melting point giving it a very aromatic with a long-lasting flavor, and a creamy, melting sensation in your mouth.

20180108_210245-01
Pan Fried Iberico Collar

Taste as good as the ribs but more on a leaner and tougher texture. This delicious pork platter really does brings the authentic flavors of inland Spain to your dining table.

20180108_204754-01
Money Bag served with Braised Fish Maw (RM 180)

More fish maws! I really enjoyed the chewy texture and how it perfectly absorbed the sauce. Oh did you know the money bag represents wealth and prosperity? Except its stuffed with minced pork and black fungus.🤣

20180108_212644-01
Scallops & Prawns in Truffle Sauce served with Assorted Vegetables (RM 98)

Impressively rich in delicate flavors from the prawns and scallops along with the black truffle. I really love the crunch of the vegetables which gives some texture to it.

20180108_212939-01
Crab Meat Fried Rice topped with Tobiko (RM 60)

You know its a good fried rice when you get that oomph on your first bite. The fried rice is filled ‘wok hei’ and you get that nice popping sensation going on in your mouth as you get some of the tobiko or fish roes.

20180108_215336-01
Alcohol-free Tiramisu topped with Chocolate Sauce and Gold Leaves (RM 60)

What makes this tiramisu so special? No, it’s not because its topped with gold leaves. This tiramisu flew all the way from Italy! And the taste wise, it is squisito regardless there’s no alcohol contain in it. I really love how the coconut flakes played along with the Tiramisu!

Chinese New Year “Fortune” Set Menu at Palace of The Golden Horses

received_10203976670734852-01

Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebration on Earth as it is the time of the year where family and friends would gather together as they mark the start to the New Year with prosperity and good luck.

In line with the upcoming Chinese New Year, award-winning Kim Ma Restaurant at the Palace of The Golden Horses will be more than please to have Chef Chris Lim and his team to present their (3) set menus with price starting from RM1088 nett/10 pax that will be taking the center-stage throughout the month of January to February 2018.

received_10203976670614849-01

Anyways, this post is a little special to me because I wasn’t around for a week as I was in Singapore and my dad went for the media review on my behalf to share his dining experience. Who’s dad actually does that? I’m so grateful.😂😂
Just so you know, all the pictures and opinions were taken from my dad.

As part of the set menu, you may make your choice of Norwegian Salmon and Top Shell Prosperity Yee Sang or the Kim Ma’s Signature Double Hot & Cold Appetizer Combinations to begin with however we went straight for the 6 main courses and desserts so I’ll leave that to you to explore.

received_10203976621933632-01
Double-boiled Minced Chicken Broth with Superior Fish Maw and Shimeji Mushrooms

It was a very clear, intense broth packed with flavors and the aroma was wonderful with some lovely hints of fish maw. As it is believed chicken broth is to restore and renew the body’s energy, this is excellent for all ages.

received_10203976624173688-01
Cantonese-styled Smoked Salted Free-Range Chicken

The chicken was lightly salted with just the right amount of salt. You’d also get a beautifully golden brown and nice light crisp from the skin while the meat was juicy and tender. There’s need not to explain why it is the signature dish.

received_10203976627333767-01
Traditional Steamed River Catfish with Superior Soy Sauce

As you know Chinese Lunar New Year is full of significance, and one of the most important dishes is a whole fish. It symbolizes plentiful prosperity for this year and the next. The fish was fresh and has a nice soft texture to it.

received_10203976629333817-01
Stir-fried Large Tiger Prawns with Special Mongolian Sauce

The prawns were beautifully coated with butter and stir-fried with black pepper coarse giving a nice heat to it. There’s this amazing crunchy, firm and crisp texture when you first bite into the prawn that makes one craves for more. This is also one of their signature dishes.

received_10203976633293916-01
Mushroom Dumplings with Seasonal Green Vegetables in Pumpkin Sauce

Among the 6 main courses, this was my dad’s favorite. These cute little dumplings were wrapped with bean curd skin with minced mushroom fillings served with perfectly blanched broccolis and pumpkin sauce below it.

received_10203976633973933-01
Steamed Mini Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf

It tasted almost like ‘lo mai gai’ we’d often have in our regular dim sum restaurants except it isn’t steamed with chicken but duck meat! The aroma of the lotus leaves instantly oomph into your nostril, the glutinous rice was nice, chewy and a mouthful of hearty feeling having this. And did I mention there’s salted egg in it as well?😏 Something new for your taste buds perhaps?

received_10203976637014009-01
Double-boiled Pineapple and Water Chestnut with Peach Jelly
received_10203976638374043-01
Sweet Fancy Duet

Like every other meals, all’s well end’s well with some delectable desserts! I know most of us would usually skip the desserts during such extensive meals but the portions were just right for each and everyone!😄

Both desserts weren’t too sweet, Double-boiled Pineapple and Water Chestnut with Peach Jelly ‘tong sui’ was really refreshing with some diced pineapples and peach jelly to munch on giving some nice texture while the Sweet Fancy Duet was adequate.

received_10203976627413769-01

If the set menu isn’t what you’re looking for, there’s also a wide selections of ‘yee sang’ starting from RM 72 nett onwards!

Thank you once again, Chef Chris Lim for the advance Chinese New Year meal.

Skyhaus Coffee . Gelato . Bakery at Taman Mayang

The haus for great friendship and good food!

20171018_161644-01

Klang Valley has been blossoming with great vegetarian and vegan dining scenes!

Skyhaus Coffee is a new vegetarian cafe on the block recently opened 3 months ago serving only 100% Arabica premium ground coffee, sugar-free gelatos & sorbets, Nama chocolates and handmade breads!

20171018_161625-01

Just so you know, these aren’t macaroons but sorbets and gelatos!

20171018_161632-01

Nama Chocolate, melt-in-mouth smooth silky texture with lovely hints of nutty flavors and aftertaste that lingers.

20171018_173738-01
Delicious unique handmade breads baked in limited quantities!

20171018_161755-01

Service was excellent and staffs were very friendly and knowledgeable with their products.

Food and drinks were served in a timely manner and the right temperature too!

I’ve got to admit everything looks pretty amazing here.

As we were lucky to be there during their Tea Time hours where they’d only be serving (2:30 PM – 5:30 PM) daily, so here’s what we’ve ordered!

20171018_163515-01
Lorraine Village (RM 10.90)

A warming pie with a golden crust and delicious filling served with fries with a really unique sauce. It’s cheesy-licious goodness but fillings are a little too salty. Fries had a nice crisp skin and light, fluffy interior.

20171018_163726-01
Spicy G-ken Burger (RM 10.90)

This burger was fire!🔥🔥🔥 It’s actually pretty delicious! Personally I’m not a huge fan of meat analogue but this one didn’t had that odd artificial flavors which was bearable. Bear in mind this burger is really spicy! I wouldn’t recommend to kids or anyone who can’t tolerate spicy foods.

20171018_163947-01
Egg Salad (RM 10.90)

Simple yet healthy and hearty.🥗 I’m obsessed with their dressing that complements this salad so well! It has that really nice sesame and peanut flavors. Everything in plate was so fresh and crispy it gets really addicting you’d catch yourself forking for more!

20171018_164803-01
Portuguese Fried Rice (RM 9.50)

There’s really strong smoky flavor or wok hei you’d get from this dish. Sadly the rice is portioned into a sad small little cone for something so addicting.
I’d totally recommend this dish though!

20171018_174933-01
Romeo & Juliet Combo (RM 25)

Finally, dessert time! Those gelatos and sorbets on the display looked so tempting I had to give it a try!

We got ourselves Rasp-Mango gelato & Rose Lychee sorbet for the Romeo & Juliet Combo where you could pick any 2 scoops which were then topped with chopped pistachios and waffles then garnished with chocolate.

Both were absolutely refreshing and weren’t too sweet at all. Flavors were really distinctive.

20171018_181804-01
Yuzu Sorbet (RM 12.50)

I 💖 anything yuzu!

Very refreshing and delightful yuzu sorbet that immediately refreshes your palate with irresistibly tasty and citrusy-floral flavor of the yuzu fruit.

It was the perfect way to end a healthy meal and absolutely guilt-free!

Overall I really did enjoy my dining experience here. Food was beyond satisfactory, coffee was amazing and ambiance was comfy. Absolutely worth the value.👍

However I do wish the cafe makes some changes on their menu as it was rather inconvenient to ask what’s the particular dish about especially when some of their dishes are given unique names and ingredients used were not listed.

Will definitely be back again for more!

xoxo,

Awe-inspiring Trip to Sasaran 天空之镜

An hour drive from the city center, lays one of Malaysia’s hidden gems located at Jeram, a small town not far from Kuala Selangor where it’s famous for it’s firefly boat tours. You may have heard of Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, the world’s largest salt flat. We’ve got something very similar (if not exactly the same) to Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia a.k.a. the world’s largest mirror right here in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia! Blessed Malaysians!

Before Sasaran is unearthed by local media and travel bloggers a few months back, it is almost the best kept secret within the area, only known to the nearby villagers.

Pau2
Before making our way to the homestay where our boat ride is, we dropped by Kedai Kopi Shin Lok for breakfast at Jeram known for it’s handmade steamed buns or paos (包), egg tarts, yam puffs and many more!

As it was early and our appetite weren’t as big, we only grabbed some paos and yam cakes paired with a cup of hot Milo.

Pau

Here’s what caught our attention in this coffee shop, we saw plates of cartoon paos on almost everyone’s table and there’s even people who come all the way from the city just to get some of these! Texture of the paos were extremely fluffy, soft and tender whilst the paste and fillings were smooth and rather generous.

While waiting for our boat, we decided to explore the surroundings of the homestay for a bit as we still got time. Wave Rest House & Cafe is the perfect rustic getaway during the weekends away from the city for nature lovers who enjoys bird watching, observing the plants and animals living in the mangrove swamps and many more.

Staying in a shipping container may be the last thing on your mind but fret not because all their rooms are fully air-conditioned and has their own private bathrooms. Wave Rest House & Cafe also offers a few packages loaded with activities to keep you and your friends or families busy throughout your stay.
Screenshot_5Unfortunately we weren’t there to stay for a night as our main reason was to visit Sasaran 天空之镜 which we’ve picked Undersea Beach & Oysters Knocking Adventures.

REMINDER: Please listen to your Tour Guide throughout the trip as your safety matters. When you’re riding on the speedboat, please do not stick your phone or any of your belongings out of the boat as the ride gets bumpy and you wouldn’t want to drop your phone into the water.

I’m thrilled with excitement when I finally get to see this hidden gem with my own eyes! I can’t help but to admire the pretty sand movements the moment I stepped out of the boat and watched this land goes further and further.

Screenshot_8

You’d see all sorts of shellfishes while you’re here and they’re huge! The patterns on the shells aren’t like the ones you’ve seen washed up by the shores.

Screenshot_7

While everyone else was finding the best spot to pose for the mirror effect photos, I spent most of my time admiring the habitat and sea critters around the island. 🙂

Note: Please DO NOT bring the critters home. This is their home. Not yours. If you see anyone bringing it to the boat, please alert your tour guide.

Screenshot_3

It may not the be best photo but I really did enjoyed spending over an hour of sea breeze and ambiance putting my soul at ease.

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.”-Buddha

Reminder: Bring along some sunscreen and a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated and avoid sunburn!

Screenshot_10

We then took another boat ride to an exotic island, Pulau Angsa which was supposedly to be a resort here where the project then wretched and to be left abandoned however on the bright side, it is also a great fishing spot but if that did not fascinate you, you can knock rock oysters off the rocks while tides are low and slurping it fresh! If only there was a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to pair with!

Screenshot_11

I wouldn’t suggest anyone to try exploring the island or stand on the ruins to snap InstaMaterial photos but to stay at the main area at all times instead as you know these ruins has been left for decades and you wouldn’t how long would be able to withstand.

After a long wait for the tides to rise, we then went back to the homestay to replenish and off to Sekinchan we go!

After an hour drive from the homestay to Sekinchan, I was starving. Like actually growling for food. We haven’t been to Sekinchan in awhile and decided to drop by Redang Beach to see what it’s like now. There’s so many food vendors there but I can’t eat too much because we were supposed to have dinner with the group we went to Sasaran Beach with which then I decided to grab some Egg Waffles by Ottimo Desserts. Not the best egg waffles I’ve had as you can see it’s dry and overcooked which was depressing.

Overall Rating: 2.5/5

Screenshot_12
And finally, we went to Wai Jia Restaurant 外家料理 for dinner. Apparently it is a Japanese restaurant with a slight local twist by using local seafood in their dishes like sushi and such. Most of their customers would come over just to try their Mantis Prawn Nigiri which the owner believes it’s by far the only restaurant in Malaysia to serve this particular dish. I wasn’t able to snap photos of other food because everyone was starving the moment the food lands on the table, dug in right away!

Here’s my dinner, Salmon Teriyaki with Steamed Rice. At first glance, it felt like home. Something my grandma would make for me whenever I visit her or stay over at her place for a couple of days. The simplicity of this dish from how it’s plated where the rice wasn’t even cupped before placing it on the plate and there’s no fancy garnishing felt so homely to me. As for the taste, the salmon teriyaki was right but almost overcooked other than that, the teriyaki sauce was delicious.

Screenshot_14Well, that was the end of my trip to Sasaran  天空之镜. It was a great eye-opening experience indeed to be able to visit a place so secluded.

Walking to the car and spotted Gudetama behind the window! Gentle reminder again, please(!) put on some sunscreen if you’re going there if you don’t want to end up tanned af like me! It hurts but I kind of like it.
