Khunthai Authentic Thai Restaurant at Petaling Garden

Khunthai was founded in 1999 by a local family from Butterworth, Penang who simply loves Thai cuisine. To enhance the dining experience, they’ve been keeping it real by creating a cozy Thai village ambiance while playing popular Thai music at the background. The dishes on their menu were mainly simple and comforting authentic Thai cuisine selling at a reasonable price.

Note: To keep their concept as authentic as possible, even their staffs are 100% Thai!

As there’s no way I could drive all the way up to Penang to dine at their first restaurant, I decided to try the nearest outlet which is at Petaling Jaya.

1. Fish Cake (RM15 / 5 pieces, RM 28 / 10 pieces) – Very aromatic; I enjoyed the lemongrass and lime leaves in it which simply takes it to a delicious level.
2. Prawn Cake (RM15 / 5 pieces, RM 28 / 10 pieces) – Its pretty similar to crab cakes except there a little more crunch in it from the diced prawns. Really crispy on the outside and juicy inside!
3. Prawn Cake with Salted Egg Yolk (RM 14 / 2 nos) – Its the same as the regular Prawn Cake except this one was stuffed with salted egg yolk.
4. Pandan Chicken (RM15 / 5 pieces, RM 28 / 10 pieces) – The chicken was moist, tender, packed with refreshing pandan aroma encased in the leaf.

Thai Mixed Seafood Otak – Otak (RM 18 / small , RM 24 / big)

This otak – otak was really one of a kind although traditionally, it should be wrapped with banana leaf instead of aluminium foil. It was a lot more rich and creamier in flavors than our local otak – otak. I’d recommend this if you’re in a group of 2 to 3 person.

Chap Oong Omelette (RM 10)

Simple yet delicious. Thai-styled fried eggs are always fluffy and crispy. We ordered this to pair with the otak-otak.

Kapal Tofu with Basil Leaves (RM 10 / small , RM15 / big)

Pretty generous with the mixed vegetables, the tofu was fried then braised to perfection. You definitely got to get a few spoonful of the sauce for your rice as it was very flavorful with wonderful flavors of the holy basil leaves. Yes, its called Holy Basil Leaves.

Laab Gai – Northern Thai Style Sauteed Mince Chicken (RM 12 / small , RM 16 / big)

For anyone who’s looking for a healthier dish, this is to go for. Its pretty light and refreshing with just the right amount of heat and raw onions to give good crunch to it. Probably one of the healthiest warm chicken salad you’ll ever have.

Claypot Glass Noodles with Prawns (RM 18 / small , RM 25 / big)

We ordered small and was surprised how ‘small’ their portion was! I’d say its a portion for 2. I’ve also got to admit that these noodles were pretty addictive and beautifully braised. Look at the size of the prawns! There were more prawns beneath the noodles.

We ended our meal with BIG bowl of Tab Tim Grop or also known as Red Rubies loaded with sliced jackfruits, jellies and the crunchy diced chestnuts. It was sweet, refreshing and delicious. Perfect to have on a sunny day or after a spicy meal!

One of Malaysia’s largest Food & Beverage Expo are back last weekend with much more to proffer! Melipoly is a vertically integrated beekeeping enterprise based in the pristine rainforests of Malaysia that produce natural honey of the highest quality. Apis Cerana – 280gm (RM51)

The rainforests in Malaysia are rich in natural forage sources for bees where wild honeys taste often richer and full-bodied with some smoky hints of caramel flavors in it. Colors can be ranged from dark golden color to russet too as dark honey contains high amount of natural antioxidants.

Stingless Bee – 280gm (RM111)

Stingless bee honey are produced by the Meliponine Stingless Bees from the tropical rainforest where they gather nectar from a tremendous variety of plants to produce a tangy honey that is rich in trace elements and organic acids. Though the texture is a lot more runny and lighter in color than regular honey, it’s totally natural and no water was added! I’ve got to love that nice hints of zest and plum in it.

Multifloral – 280gm (RM51)

Produced by our fellow Malaysian Honey Bees in our local rainforest, these bees forage from a wide variety of forest trees and plants to produce a dark golden-hued honey with a amazing fresh, floral fragrance. One of my personal favorite! The diverse nectar sources results in a honey that is rich with a wide range of minerals and micro-nutrients.

Melipoly Stingless Bee Honey 500gm would be the perfect gift for your loved ones. Highly recommended for senior citizens who are diabetic, has high blood pressure and high cholesterol. One tablespoon a day only!

These chocolates are produced by Melipoly as well! 64% Belgian Chocolate with Multifloral Honey, Kurma & Almond. Chocolates with additional health benefits? Not guilty at all!

One word to describe Melipoly? Genuine, truly what something is said to be. From its taste and texture, you’ll know how genuine it is from how soothing it is down your throat.😏 The honey is totally different from the sickly sweet ones you often find in your local supermarket or ones drizzled on your pancakes and waffles.

Basic Jewellery Making Workshop by Elegant Jewellery Studio

Elegant Jewellery Studio based its humble beginning on the passion of the Founder, Miss Angie Ng as she is very passionate in jewellery making and designing. She has travelled all over the world to learn from top notch jewellery designers, sourced for materials from the most common of pearls to Mexican opals and black diamonds – the most expensive of its kind, and also she is highly regarded by many as one of the experts in the industry.

Jewellery making is a great way to relax, unwind and learn some new skills throughout the creation. I’m truly grateful to have this opportunity to design my very own jewellery set for a 3-hours session for beginners at the price of RM 198 nett.

What do I have to do within 3 hours? A necklace, bracelet and a pair of earrings. Some of her students could finish them in less than 2 hours while some took longer than the time given.
We’ll see how long does it takes for me to complete then!

Before I start making my own jewellery set, I was given a few samples to see how things should be done or perhaps get some inspirations from it.

It took me some time to figure out how I wanted to make mine even with all these pretty jewelleries presented in front of me. I wanted something bold that stands out and I’d wear it when I’m on a vacation or certain occasions.

Without hesitations, I thought of a bohemian mermaid-themed for my jewellery which turns out pretty well. I’m starting to get the hang of it!

I know what you’re thinking, for a girl who’s constantly dressed in black or dark color clothing making a vibrant-colored jewellery.😂

Now here comes the part that I struggled a little, putting them together.

Here’s the 3 main pliers to get the job done: Cutting Plier, Round Nose Plier & Long Nose Toothed Plier. Took me awhile to actually get the hang of it using the pliers and getting the right measurements before snipping it.

Voila! Here’s my end product after getting all 3 jewellery done. Throughout the workshop, doing the bracelet and necklace were a lot easier than doing the earrings because I took quite some time trying to get a balanced loop.😭😭

On the bright side, it’s nice spending the weekend learning something new and thinking out of the box.

It is Angie’s dream to share about her passion and knowledge in jewellery making with like-minded people. She is definitely living her dream through the academy, conducting workshops and classes for special interest groups. It is her belief that every student should be proud wearing their own creation, right from the very first class. She prides herself by giving her students greater flexibility and inspiring them to craft their own unique designs. Grazie, Angie!

As per what Angie belief, I decided to wear them on my trip to Penang and took some pictures with it!
